The Board of Trustees and staff of the ICF Foundation are saddened to report the passing of longtime Foundation Trustee Sir John Whitmore.

A pioneer of the coaching profession, Sir John was the founder of Performance Consultants International and the author of five books on leadership, coaching and sports. The best known of these titles is Coaching for Performance, which introduced the world to the GROW Model and has sold more than 800,000 copies in 23 languages.

In 2007, Sir John was presented with the ICF President’s Award in recognition of his work to promote coaching in a humanitarian capacity. In 2012, he joined the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, where he helped lead our organization’s efforts to influence humanity’s evolution through coaching partnerships focused on compassionate, life-affirming choices.

“We are saddened at the loss of a legendary coach, inspirational leader and wonderful friend of the Foundation. His passion for building a better world through coaching inspired us all and will continue to be the guidepost for our collective vision of accelerating positive change,” ICF Foundation Board of Trustees President Paula Cushing said.

The team at Performance Consultants International has invited the coaching community to publish their thoughts, reflections and memories of Sir John on his LinkedIn page. They will share these messages with his family and friends.
