Each year, International Coaching Week (ICW) Offers a moment to step back and consider what coaching can truly make possible.
At the ICF Foundation that impact comes to life every day through the Ignite Initiative. Across continents, cultures, and communities, coaching helps leaders unlock protentional, strengthening organizations from within, and supporting communities as they work toward a more just, equitable, and sustainable future.
During International Coaching Week, we celebrate these stories not just to reflect, but to show what’s possible when coaching is rooted in purpose.
Coaching for Humanity and the Planet
The Ignite Initiative was created to accelerate social progress through coaching. Since its launch in 2017, Ignite has connected ICF chapters and credentialed coaches with nonprofit and social impact organizations aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Today, Ignite projects are active in communities around the world tackling challenges like gender equity, education, peace and justice, climate action, and community well-being.
But this work is more than a list of issues or metrics, it’s about people. Go beyond the numbers and you will find powerful stories of transformation.
Igniting Change Through Women’s Leadership in Kenya
In Kenya, where gender-based violence and human trafficking continue to threaten the safety and well-being of women and children, coaching became a catalyst for hope.
Through the Ignite Initiative, the ICF Kenya Chapter to provided coaching to 16 grassroots women leaders at Life Bloom Services International, an organization supporting survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The coaching focused on strengthening leadership capacity, well-being, productivity, and organizational effectiveness.
The impact extended far beyond individual coaching sessions.

By investing in the leadership of women on the front lines, coaching helped strengthen the organization’s ability to serve its community—advancing SDG 5: Gender Equality and reinforcing the ripple effect of coaching at the community level.
Coaching as a Source of Stability in Times of Crisis
Through the Ignite initiative, leaders living in an active war zone are learning to navigate crises with resilience and clarity. Between August 2022 and December 2023, the ICF Ukraine Chapter and Academy D.TEK supported Ukrainian leaders navigating extraordinary challenges. Through this Ignite project, 150 ICF-credentialed coaches provided 1,310 coaching hours to 234 leaders.
Leaders reported meaningful improvements, including:
- Stronger coping strategies
- Improved communication
- Increased productivity
- Enhanced overall well-being
In the midst of disruption, coaching offered leaders space to reflect, adapt, and continue leading with clarity and resilience, demonstrating coaching’s contribution to SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
A Global Movement of Coaches Creating Impact
These stories are part of a much larger picture.
In 2024 alone, Ignite engaged:
- 48 ICF chapters
- 1,217 ICF-credentialed coaches
- 1,169 coaching clients
- 63 organizations
- 5,335 coaching hours delivered worldwide
Across regions, coaching helped improve leadership, communication, personal growth, and well-being, strengthening organizations so they can more fully serve their missions and communities.
Celebrating Coaching During International Coaching Week
International Coaching Week is a celebration, but it is also an invitation.
An invitation to recognize coaching as a powerful tool for social change.
An invitation to amplify stories of impact.
And an invitation to take part.
